Recently I took two weeks off from the outside world and for all intents and purposes locked myself in the studio. Just me, and what ended up being seven 30″ x 40″ canvases along with a handful of smaller canvases I always have around.
To say I needed a break would be the understatement of the year. I had lost my center, and was suffering from lack of purpose, lack of sleep, and worse I was suffering from cognitive dissonance. I was a mess. Doing things I didn’t want to do, and not doing the things I am meant to do.
So, without a word to anyone, I made the decision. I was lucky enough to quickly acquire the large canvases that work better for this process , and I began a two week adventure in my studio, as I buckled down to learn the method of Intuitive Painting I had failed to invest the time in earlier in the year.
I meditated each morning, and did a light yoga session. And then proceeded to work my way through the six weeks of Flora Bowley’s class, Bloom True…finally. There was so much I missed. And so much I love! I am enthralled by this painting method.
I don’t know where it is going to lead. But I am going to follow it for a while. I am able to predominantly finger paint, or hand as it were, along with using a few tools. But that could change, and that is ok. There are no mistakes. I had been putting so much pressure on myself, I really like that phrase. There are no mistakes. I could say it all day long. But I won’t. hehe.
I wanted to share with all of you the quick snapshots I took as I was painting. I had a blast posting many of these to my Instagram account as it was happening.
The quick images I shot during my #paintacation have become something of a diary of my two weeks. Snippets of the day’s wonders, photographed and momentarily admired for their color and beauty. Then just as quickly those images were gone, covered over with a new layer for another quick snapshot.
The larger works are beginning to show glimmers of promise as a whole, rather than tiny pieces. Images are beginning to appear through the layers as if by magic.
And soon you will begin to see them appearing as completed works.
But…in the meantime…I thought you might enjoy a short montage of my painting vacation. And some of the snippets of these works in progress.
Have A Wonderful Summer Vacation! ~ Cyd

Some of these are pretty enough to be finished now. Abstract seems to be the thing in this area that sells. We have a young fellow in our painting class who is making a name for himself with his abstract paintings, has had his own shows and sells his work, so hopefully this will end up going that way for you. Looking forward to see what you have when you say you are done.
Thank You Mary. I agree with you. There are a few I really like as they are now. My thoughts are to set them to the side…or maybe post them prior to varnishing. Just to see what the response is. :) This looks to be a long path, as it has so many variables I can branch out too, and I am now doing a lot of the painting on these with my left hand, as it isn’t such detail orientated. So each step is a wonderful surprise.
That is great news, about the young man in your painting group. He must be very good.
I am hoping to get back to the studio in the next week. I am eager to see where these go.
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
