This week during the #thrivingartist Summit, artist Flora Bowley captured my imagination. One of the ways Flora generates a path for creativity is to paint to music, letting it create the rhythm of the painting. This sounded like such fun, that I decided to try it with one of the Project 50 paintings.
I let my iphone do the choosing, and the song that came up was “Bittersweet” by Ellie Goulding, off The Twilight Series: Breaking Dawn Part II Album, with that haunting phrase “Don’t Forget My Name”.
I thought this music was perfect it allowed me to move around the painting at various speeds, finger painting as Flora suggested…albeit I was using a 4″ x 4″ canvas…and she would be using a 4 feet by 4 feet canvas. I can not even begin to tell you how much fun it was. The only tool I used was a Starbucks coffee cup stopper. (strange isn’t it out I always seem to have one of those handy? *grin* I seriously should check into a sponsorship from them. )
I don’t know exactly why, but I feel such a connection with Flora, I have actually signed up for an on-line course she is offering later this winter.
I hope you like this one as much as I do. ~ Cyd
It’s been a while, so I guess I should remind everyone. These are 4″ square paintings. If you are viewing it on a monitor larger than that…which almost everyone is unless you are using your phone, it is being greatly distorted. Slide your chair back from the computer, or zoom out until you get it to about 4″. It makes all the difference.
